Coriolus versicolor contains both mycelium and primordia (young fruit body) cultivated into a biomass that is grown on a sterilized (autoclaved) substrate. This cultivation process ensures the powder is free from contamination by other fungi and that pesticides and heavy metals are absent.

Coriolus versicolor is atoxic and does not have any secondary side effects. The therapeutic properties of mushroom nutrition in general are attributed to the presence of polysaccharides, anti-oxidants and enzymes. Clinical studies in Japan have been conducted on the extracted form of Coriolus versicolor, Krestin or PSK with impressive results.
