Zhi Gan Cao Tang by Blue Poppy’s Great Nature Classics is a
formula that comes from Zhang Zhong-jing’s late Han dynasty Shang Han Lun
(Treatise on Damage [Due to] Cold).
Zhi Gan Cao Tang helps with:
• Heart palpitations
• Dry cough without phlegm or cough with foamy, scanty spittle
• Emaciation
• Spontaneous sweating and/or night sweats
• Rapid pulse or a bound and intermittent (irregular) pulse
Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) is used to nourish yin, and in ancient times
was also said to free the vessels.
Zhi Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix Praeparata), Da Zao (Jujubae Fructus) and Ren
Shen (Ginseng Radix) supplement heart qi and spleen qi, while E Jiao (Asini
Corii Colla), Huo Ma Ren and Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogonis Radix) nourish yin and
blood. Gui Zhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) and Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens)
are warm and freeing, and they warm and free the blood and vessels while
preventing stagnation.
Actions: Replenishes deficient Qi, enriches the blood and nourishes yin to
restore a healthy pulse.
Pattern: Qi and Blood deficiency
Tongue: Shiny tongue with scant fur
Pulse: Vacuous, rapid pulse or a bound and intermittent (irregular) pulse
Chinese Symptomology: Irregular heart beat, palpitations, shortness of breath,
pallor, insomnia, spontaneous perspiration, night sweats, dry mouth and throat,
poor memory.
Western Symptomology: Ventricular premature
heart beat, primary stages of arterioventricular blockage, functional
arrhythmia, auricular fibrillation, cardiovascular neurosis, hyperthyroidism,
rheumatic heart disease.
Suggested Use:
