Sheng Mai San by Blue Poppy’s Great Nature Classics is a
formula that comes from Li Dong-yuan's Treatise on Clarifying the Doubts About
Internal & External Damage (Nei Wai Shang Bian Huo Lun).
Within this formula, Ren Shen (Radix Ginseng) and Wu Wei Zi supplement the qi
of the heart and lungs as well as nourish yin and engender fluids. Both of
these medicinals also quiet the spirit, and Wu Wei Zi (Fructus Schisandrae)
also secures and astringes the heart and lung qi.
Mai Men Dong (Tuber Ophiopogonis) engenders fluids and moisten dryness as well
as clears heat from the heart and transforms phlegm.
Actions: Supplements the qi of the heart and lungs, nourishes yin and engenders
fluids, quiets the spirit, secures and astringes the heart and lung qi,
moistens dryness, clears heat from the heart and transforms phlegm.
Pattern: Qi & yin vacuity, primarily of the lungs
Tongue: Fat, swollen, possibly tender with teeth-marks on its edges.
Pulse: Forceless
Contraindications: In general, do not use unmodified until replete evils have
been eliminated.
Chinese Symptomology: Qi and yin vacuity, primarily of the heart and lungs,
fatigue, lack of strength, lassitude of the spirit, shortness of breath, spontaneous
perspiration.
Western Symptomology: Chronic bronchitis, pulmonary tuberculosis, and other
forms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, supraventricular arrhythmias,
rheumatic heart disease, coronary artery disease, post-bypass debility, viral
myocarditis
Suggested Use:
Adults take 3 capsules 2 times per day or as directed by your healthcare
