Cang Er Zi San by Blue Poppy’s Great Nature Classics is a
formula that comes from Yan Yong-hes Song dynasty Ji Sheng Fang (Formulas to
Aid the Living) published in 1253.
Within this formula, Cang Er Zi and Xin Yi Hua are acrid and warm and free the
flow of the nose.
Bai Zhi, acrid, warm, and aromatic, resolves the exterior and frees the flow of
the orifices, disperses wind and eliminates dampness, and promotes the
discharge of pus.
Bo He, acrid and cool, disperses wind and clears heat as well as clears the
head and eyes. It also guides the other ingredients in this formula to the head.
Actions: Disperses wind, alleviates pain, and unblocks the nose.
Pattern: Wind-heat attacking the head
Chinese Symptomology: Copious, purulent, and foul-smelling nasal discharge,
nasal obstruction, dizziness, frontal headache
Western Symptomology: Acute or chronic
sinusitis and acute chronic, or allergic rhinitis
Tongue: Usually has a white or yellow coating
Pulse: Usually floating and rapid
